Cashmere Blanket Himalayan Trader
A traditional design by a master weaver from the Annapurna region. This style of Himalayan striped blankets have been handwoven for centuries in Northern Nepal and Tibet on back strap wooden looms. Woven panels made with wool would be stitched to make blankets, bags and nomad tent panels. This 8 ply cashmere blanket is hand woven with hand spun cashmere yarn in a flat weave and will endure for decades. It takes 4-5 months to make one blanket.
I lived and worked in the Thakol region and Tibet and learned about the communities, sacred landscape, folklore and textile tradition for nomads from the goat to the loom. Goats shed their cashmere in Spring.
It is an incredible heritage piece in terms of its provenance and hand work.
